Chevrolet unveils future city car design plans
Proud owners of the Chevrolet Matiz have been given an insight into the future design preoccupations of the marque's next generation of city cars at the New York International Auto Show. One of the new models to be exhibited at the event was the Chevrolet Groove - a 1.0-litre diesel city car that takes its retro design influences from hot rods of the 1960s.
Also on display was the Trax, which is powered by a small 1.0-litre engine but is designed to still be capable of roughing it over hostile terrain.
Finally, the Beat boasted the largest engine of the three with a 1.2-litre turbocharged motor, but attention was drawn away from this by the eye-catching headlamps that punctuate the car's bonnet.
Commenting on the models, Ed Welburn, vice president of design at General Motors (GM), which owns the Chevrolet marque, said: "The Beat, Groove and Trax highlight the strength and diversity of GM's global design capabilities, as well as its ability to anticipate and quickly meet the evolving needs of diverse markets."
In addition to Chevrolet, GM also owns the UK-based automotive brand Vauxhall and the European car group Opel.
