Vauxhall Viva one of the most eagerly-awaited cars

The new Vauxhall Viva has received its first honour, a nomination for the What Car? Reader Awards’ most eagerly-anticipated car.

Despite having not yet been fully revealed, the all-new version of the legendary Viva badge, which was only officially announced in September, has already proven popular with car fans.

Unlike the other What Car? awards, which are presided over by a judging panel, the Reader Award lets the public pick their favourites. Votes are open now until early January, when the winner will be announced.

Tim Tozer, Vauxhall’s chairman and managing director, said: “We’re delighted Viva has picked up its first award nomination ahead of its launch next summer.

“Offering an extremely attractive price point, Viva will be well specified and come in a range of trims and equipment levels, which will hold great appeal in this rapidly growing sector.”

Small five-door city car

According to Vauxhall, the new Viva will be a small five-door city car, sitting in the range alongside the ADAM and the Corsa. It’s due to be available with either four or five seats, and will also feature a wide range of trim and equipment levels.

As well as that, the new Viva will most likely take advantage of Vauxhall’s customisation options like the ADAM, and will probably feature a large choice of colour combinations and options.

What Car? Editor, Jim Holder, said: “Once again, next year will see Britain’s motoring public spoiled for choice when it comes to new and exciting cars hitting the market.

“The Reader Award has a special prestige for manufacturers purely because it is voted for by their paying public. To get this particular prize is a very good indication that the car you’re toiling over is getting the right reaction from consumers.”

Vauxhall Corsa

The Viva isn’t the only Vauxhall model to receive award nominations either, after the Corsa was shortlisted for a prestigious European Car of the Year accolade back in July.

One of the most popular models in the UK, the Corsa has been the third best-selling car in the UK for this year so far, just behind the Ford Fiesta and Focus.

Vauxhall is hoping that its new Corsa model, due for release early next year, has the ability to topple both the Fiesta and Focus from the top spot, with a range of new engines and kit inclusions.

Available to order now, the brand-new Corsa is priced from £8,995. While pricing and specs have yet to be announced for the Viva, more will be known closer to the car’s release next year.
