After a long wait since its public unveiling last October, the new 2015 Hyundai i20 supermini will officially go on sale in the UK tomorrow, priced from £10,695.

First unveiled to the world at last year’s Paris Motor Show, the new i20 is a completely new car from its predecessor and has its sights set on tackling other supermini rivals like the Ford Fiesta.

With a new chassis that’s 45mm longer than the outgoing model, the new i20 features class-leading front and rear legroom and the manufacturer says that it can comfortably fit five adults inside.

Spacious interior

Following Hyundai’s recent trend for vehicles that are compact on the outside but spacious on the inside, the i20 has a boot capacity of 326 litres, beating the Fiesta by a full 36 litres.

It also features styling from Peter Schreyer, whose previous design efforts include Kia’s GT range and sleek sports cars like the Audi TT, the i20 has been updated with crisp and attractive ‘family’ looks.

The front end also features the same deep hexagonal grille as on the i30, i40 and Santa Fe models, while the i20 is also available with a full-length panoramic sunroof that can both tilt and open fully.

Five trim levels are available in total, which include the entry-level S, mid-range S Air, S Blue and SE models, plus the range-topping Premium and Premium SE trim levels.

S Blue is the greenest

Standard equipment includes electric windows, remote central locking and USB connectivity, while the S Air model adds air conditioning. The S Blue model is the greenest with stop-start technology and low-rolling-resistance tyres.

SE-trim models, meanwhile, get 16-inch alloys and Bluetooth connectivity, plus cruise control with a speed limiter and a range of assistance kit like lane-departure warning systems and parking sensors.

Hyundai’s Premium trim levels come with significantly more kit than the rest, which includes automatic headlights and wipers, plus climate control, cornering lights and privacy glass.

Range-topping Premium SE models add all of the above, and also come with a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors and other luxury touches like heated seats and a heated steering wheel.

Engine options

From launch, five engine options will be available, with two petrol engines available in a range of outputs, plus two diesel options.

A 1.2-litre petrol is available with outputs of either 74bhp or 84bhp, while a more powerful 99bhp 1.4-litre petrol unit is also available on models specified with SE trim or above.

Diesel options, meanwhile, include a 1.1-litre engine with 74bhp or a more powerful 89bhp 1.4-litre version, while the smaller diesel is the most economical of the lot, emitting only 84 g/km of CO2.

Available at Perrys Hyundai in Luton from tomorrow onwards, the new Hyundai i20 is priced between just £10,695 and £16,725.
