People who are searching for ways in which to improve their carbon footprint when they are on the road may like to look into the opportunity of a car-share.
People who are searching for ways in which to improve their carbon footprint when they are on the road may like to look into the opportunity of a car-share.
And this choice could be encouraged by news that Fiat has recently agreed a deal with Connect - a motor-sharing organisation.
The agreement will see the Hertz-owned company be able to offer the use of the Fiat 500 city car to its customers, as well as the Alfa Romeo MiTO.
Individuals can do more to be green on the road by simply using the former vehicle as it comes with the brand's eco:Drive mode, a computer application which is designed to help drivers become more economical.
The manufacturer noted that the function analyses a person's driving style and helps them reduce their CO2 emissions and use less fuel, which saves consumers money.
Moreover, the car could be ideal for businessmen in London - where the initiative will be introduced first - who need a car for as little time as an hour.
Motorists can order the vehicle, unlock it with a swipe card, use it for the allotted time and then return it.
Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland, said the agreement with Connect is an exciting deal and fits well into the brand's fleet strategy.
In addition, Paolo Lo Monaco, finance and business development director for Fiat in the UK and Ireland, echoed these comments and noted that the deal is the ideal audience for its products.
He added: "It puts the Fiat 500 and Alfa MiTo right where we want them to be – in the hands of young, environmentally-conscious individuals who are free-thinking about the car they want to drive."
And Fiat is even devising terms to allow Connect members to buy one of the motors if they do not want to give it back.
