Through next year the UK car market will see the arrival of new SUV models. Some are more traditional 4x4s for tackling rough terrain while others have bold styling and city driving in mind.

Here is our guide to the best new crossovers and SUVs anticipated for 2014. Each model in this guide will in time become available for test driving and purchase at select Perrys Dealerships nationwide.

Ford EcoSport

Following entries this year from the likes of Renault, Peugeot and Chevrolet, now Ford is readying its competitor for the mini-SUV crossover segment.

The new EcoSport is based on the underpinning of the Ford Fiesta supermini, the UK’s best selling new car of the past several years.

The EcoSport is a fairly compact length but has a much chunkier bodystyle compared to the Fiesta, giving it a more rugged appeal.

Engines for the Ford EcoSport will include the manufacturer’s impressive 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol turbo engine, producing 118bhp.

Ford’s new mini-SUV will also be available with the company’s latest gadgets including Ford SYNC voice control.

The Ford EcoSport will launch in the UK in early 2014 and will pit itself against the likes of the Vauxhall Mokka, Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is one of the best selling crossover models in the UK market and a hotly-anticipated second generation model will launch here in February 2014.

With the new model, Nissan has given a Qashqai a more aggressive appearance overall with many exterior and interior features on par with premium models.

The new Qashqai is also packed with gadgetry, featuring a media entertainment system onboard that supports Bluetooth, satellite navigation and various smartphone apps.

Engines from the Qashqai’s launch will include a 108bhp 1.5-litre dCi turbodiesel returning 74.3mpg and just 99g/km in CO2 emissions.

Pricing for the new Nissan Qashqai will range between £17,595 and £27,845.

Range Rover Sport Hybrid

The new Ranger Rover Sport has been a major hit in the UK market this year, receiving many rave reviews and plenty of orders from customers.

For next year the 4×4 range is expanding with the arrival of a low-emission hybrid specification. The Range Rover Sport Hybrid has a powertrain which combines Land Rover’s 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel engine with an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 47bhp. Combined the SUV produces 335bhp and returns CO2 emissions of 169g/km. That’s a particularly low CO2 output for an SUV in its category.

Yet the Hybrid won’t be lacking in performance, as it’ll be able to go from a standstill to 62mph in under seven seconds. On top of that the 4×4 will retain all the fantastic luxury features which make the Range Rover Sport extra special.

Nissan X-Trail

Following the arrival of the new Qashqai in early 2014, Nissan will follow this with a brand new version of the larger seven-seater X-Trail SUV next July.

Whereas the current X-Trail is a boxy-shaped and lesser-known SUV from Nissan, the manufacturer is bringing its next-generation version closer to its crossover counterparts, in terms of styling certainly.

The new X-Trail blends in sleek and stylish lines, associated with a modern crossover, with the robust appeal of a typical SUV. The inclusion of 19-inch alloy wheels provides the new X-Trail with a more imposing look.

Nissan’s new X-Trail 4×4 also incorporates extra gadgetry including a multimedia entertainment system.

Jaguar C-X17

Earlier this year during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the British car brand Jaguar signalled a bold new change of direction with this concept, the C-X17.

A crossover vehicle from Jaguar has long been rumoured and the C-X17 brings that idea a lot closer to reality.

The Jaguar C-X17 was created to demonstrate an all-new aluminium monocoque which will feature on other future models from the company. Inside the concept has a remarkable and futuristic-looking four-seater cabin.

While Jaguar has not actually confirmed it as fact yet, the C-X17 will in all probability reach production. It could even reach UK showrooms before the end of 2014 and would represent one of the more premium and classier choices in the sporty crossover segment.
