Sky-high insurance for younger drivers
There are many things revolving around young drivers and whether or not they are getting fair insurance premiums, enough training on the roads and sufficient exposure to the dangers of drug and alcohol use.
When it comes to insurance premiums young drivers usually suffer as insurance premiums are calculated using categories such as age, occupation and current vehicle.
Young drivers' insurance premiums will be higher as they are viewed as 'irresponsible' behind the wheel and more likely to have a crash. It can be hard to find cheaper car insurance, especially for young drivers, because when it comes down to it statistics don't lie.
However, insurance premiums do not calculate your skills as a driver, so there is some sense of in-accuracy to statistical information like age and occupation.
One company that has made a move in the 'driving skills' direction is TomTom and its Fair Play scheme. This is a new system that uses sat nav to monitor your driving habits, meaning accurate information can be recorded on how much of a risk you really are.
But it's no use in trying to save on insurance when you have already wasted money on buying what might be the wrong car for you. The problem here is that because there are so many cars to choose from nowadays, it's hard to choose the car that's right for a young driver.
It is indisputable that young drivers need a car that's both affordable to buy, affordable to run and, for some, illustrates a bit of credibility and style. So it can be tough.
