A green Ford car has been named the best Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) for the third time in a row.

The Ford S-MAX model, which was launched in 2006, won the accolade at the Auto Express New Car Awards.

Editor-in-chief of the magazine David Johns pointed towards some of the green motor's environmentally-friendly attributes as possible reasons why it was successful.

He added: "With its eye-catching interior, razor-sharp chassis and adaptable seven-seat cabin, the people carrier benefitted from a thorough overhaul this year.

"A powerful new line-up of EcoBoost petrol engines and revised diesels, as well as an increase in cabin quality, has helped keep Ford ahead of the game."

The Ford green car's EcoBoost function is able to deliver more torque and power as well as lower CO2 emissions and consumption, according to the manufacturer.

And the producer noted it is always striving to improve in terms of being eco-friendly and admitted that as regards to climate change, their innovation has never been as important, which is why it is developing more eco-friendly motors.

It also declared that its Ford S-MAX engines are all compliant with the Euro 5 emissions standards, which ensures the CO2 output of the vehicle is lower.

On the motor there is also a six-speed PowerShift transmission, which aims to make driving easier and be more fuel efficient.

Jon Gunn-Smith, Ford large car product manager, said the hat-trick of titles for the green Ford car is testimony to the vehicle, which has redefined the MPV segment, while almost 45,000 UK motorists have purchased one of the models.

"They appreciate not only the looks and functionality of a Ford S-MAX, but also its driving quality. This has been strengthened by the latest model, which includes a 163PS two-litre diesel engine returning almost 50 mpg and a 203PS two-litre turbo petrol engine," he added.
