The Ford S-MAX has been named the best people carrier by a motoring magazine.

The green Ford car has been given the accolade by Business Car Manager, while the Ford Fiesta was acknowledged as the best super mini.

It is a double delight for the S-MAX as last week the Auto Express New Car Awards called it the best Multi-Purpose Vehicle for the third time in a row.

Ralph Morton, editor of Business Car Manager, said the pair of motors were very desirable vehicles and do not cost the earth to run and they also keep hold of the majority of their value.

He added: "These two Ford models thoroughly deserve these awards after meeting our stringent selection criteria."

Out of the two Ford green cars, the Fiesta achieves the most energy-efficient CO2 emission output with 98 g/km, while the S-MAX is capable of 152 g/km.

In terms of their mpg ratings, the former can manage 76.3, with the latter doing 49.6, the manufacturer has noted.

Kevin Griffin, director of fleet operations for Ford of Britain, said: "We are delighted to receive these two accolades.

"Ford's best-ever car range appeals to a wide spectrum of customers, including the demanding business sector and we are thrilled that the popularity of our cars continues to result in winning awards."

The Fiesta is also the cheaper of the two Ford green cars, available at just under £10,000, compared to the S-MAX's price of more than £20,000.

In addition, the Ford S-MAX - which was launched in 2006 - was last week praised by editor-in-chief of Auto Express magazine David Johns for its eco-friendly attributes when it took home the MPV award.

He added: "With its eye-catching interior, razor-sharp chassis and adaptable seven-seat cabin, the people carrier benefitted from a thorough overhaul this year."
