An open weekend is being held to encourage people to purchase green Citroen cars.

The manufacturer's event takes place on the August bank holiday period from 27th until the 30th just before the new 60 registration plate is introduced to the market in September.

One of the Citroen green cars is the C1, which the company describes as the one of the UK's most fuel and CO2 efficient models.

With a petrol engine and manual gearbox, the car can manage 106 g/km of CO2 output, compared with 109 g/km for the diesel model.

Moreover, the electrically-controlled system on the Citroen green car's HDi engine is designed to "significantly reduce pollution" and optimise the air/fuel mix.

The C1 has an Airdream signature, which is awarded to vehicles that produce 120 g/km of CO2 or less and is designed to be 95 per cent recoverable at the end of its lifetime.

Other motors set to be showcased at the open weekend include the Citroen C3 models, which all also carry the Airdream label.

The manufacturer claims that the new generation VTi and HDi engines offer no better proof that the producer is an industry leader in environmental technology and its C3 Airdream+ model emits 99 g/km of CO2.

In addition, the producer will be showing off its "critically acclaimed and hotly demanded" Citroen DS3 range, which has been designed to be more environmentally-friendly.

"Its CO2 emissions are completely in line with Citroen's environmental leadership and demands," the car maker added.

"In practice, the level of emissions in [the] mixed cycle from the HDi FAP are always lower than 115 g/km."

Earlier this year, the company updated its range of vehicles with the launch of the Citroen C5 range on the Saloon and Tourer trim, which comes with a 1.6HDi 110hp engine.
