The wide range of green Renault cars that have been produced can allow the manufacturer to be classed as a real leader in eco-friendly motors, the company believes.
It has established the Renault eco programme to try to achieve its goal of improving the environmental abilities of its motors.
Four categories make up the initiative, such as design, production, on-road use and end-of-life.
By implementing the former Renault hopes it can become the highest European vehicle manufacturer in terms of CO2 emissions and to do this it has set out two main areas to concentrate on, which includes electric car implementation.
The company stated it has an "unprecedented commitment to electric powertrains" and believes "electric vehicles will account for ten per cent of the world market by 2020".
It has already manufactured some green Renault cars, which feature a technology similar to that of the upcoming designs of electric motors the sale of which will begin in 2011.
Other Renault green car initiatives the company is attempting to introduce involve the production of the motors and in particular to look at water and energy consumption savings, as well as searching for methods to reduce waste.
Overall, the company's brand signature "Drive the Change" is there to notify consumers of its focus on improving the productivity of green Renault cars and improve the vehicles' impact on the environment.
The organisation noted it "it is essential to make the most effective technologies available to as many motorists as possible, at prices they can afford".
One green Renault car currently on the market is the Twingo eco2, which produces 130 g/km of CO2 emissions and is able to manage a best mpg of 51.3 on the combined cycle, yet it still comes with 14-inch steel wheels and variable power steering.
