The latest addition to the Ford Mondeo range is the most environmentally-friendly of its type created so far, according to the manufacturer.

It is set to be unveiled at the Moscow International Automobile Salon on August 25th but will not be put on sale in the UK until October this year.

The Ford green car has new EcoBoost petrol and TDCi diesel powertrain engines. A 240PS two-litre version of the former will be available on the motor which provides "extra performance" and aims to average the CO2 emissions at 179 g/km.

And the producer has noted that fuel consumption should be up to 20 per cent lower than other similar engines.

Consumers could also get the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine in their new Mondeo which is the most powerful one of its type to date after a 12 per cent increase in boost.

It comes in a range of PS ratings - 115, 140 or 163 - and with a six-speed transmission green Ford car the CO2 emissions should average out at 139 g/km, the manufacturer stated.

John Fleming, Ford of Europe chairman and chief executive, said the new vehicle is the "smartest, safest, most environmentally friendly and best quality" Mondeo that the company has produced.

He added: "The Ford Mondeo is already a very strong package and - with the significant design changes and in particular the comprehensive array of new technologies we are introducing - we have no doubt that the new model will strengthen Mondeo's position as the flagship Ford model in our European line-up."

Another recent green Ford car launched by the organisation includes the S-MAX which has elegant and dynamic styling - all part of its energy in motion philosophy - the manufacturer has noted.

And its EcoBoost engine delivers more torque and power, as well as a lower fuel consumption.
