Renault green car customers are now able to take advantage of a deal which could help improve their carbon footprint.

Drivers are being encouraged to buy eco-friendly tyres and those who purchase two from Renault in May and June will be able to receive a free pressure gauge worth £15.

This comes after an agreement was made with the motor manufacturer and tyre dealer Michelin.

Roger Loderick, product manager of Service, Wear & Tear, Tyres, Oil for Renault UK, said that individuals need to ensure their tyres have the correct pressure at all times because it can increase the lifespan of the vehicle.

In addition, tyres that are not pumped up to their full allocation can be dangerous so the inflation pressures should be correct to ensure the breaking effectiveness of the vehicle is maximised - particularly important during wet conditions.

He added: "Keeping tyres at the correct pressure and using energy efficient tyres reduces your engine's workload, saving fuel and reducing CO2 emissions. With drivers keeping a keen eye on the cost of motoring, this free digital tyre pressure gauge could make the world of difference."

Ensuring tyres are properly pumped up could also improve the fuel economy of the green Renault cars and the manufacturer advises people that they can find a guideline for the ideal pressure in the vehicle's handbook or maintenance booklet.

It noted that tyre life can be reduced by up to 20 per cent if the devices are under-inflated by as little as 7psi and if it is more than 14psi then a motorist could risk "rapid deflation". And the car's fuel economy will be worse, with the driver needing to fill the tank up an additional time each year.

One Renault green car that people could buy energy-efficient tyres for is the Renault Clio Expression 5 door, which has a best mpg of 65.7 and emits 115 g/km of CO2.
