Alfa Spider: Beautiful and brilliant

The Alfa Spider has been branded "a thing of beauty" by a group of car testers reviewing the Italian vehicle for the Belfast Telegraph.

Motoring journalist David Wilkins and three other car enthusiasts sung the praises of the Alfa Spider's sleek look - both inside and out.

In addition to the impressive exterior, the Italian indicators for oil (olio), water (acqua) and fuel (benzina) added to the vehicle's glamorous feel, they suggested.

And they concluded that the driving experience is similarly impressive, albeit in a perhaps surprising way.

Writing in the Belfast Telegraph, the reviewer suggests driving the Alfa Spider is "soft rather than sporty" and unexpectedly "refined".

A recent Channel 4 road test gave the Alfa Spider three stars out of a possible five. It also praised the car's great looks, but warned against potentially high running costs.

Meanwhile, March saw the launch of a new Alfa Spider version in the UK. The new diesel-powered 200 bhp 2.4 JTDM 20v engine offers drivers "superb" performance, according to its makers.

It is described by Alfa as "a jewel of automotive engineering that confirms Fiat Auto's supremacy in the field".
