Alfa Romeo unveils new Spider in the UK

Loyal devotees of the Alfa Romeo marque may be interested to hear about the launch of a new convertible from the iconic Italian automaker.

The new Alfa Romeo Spider, which has just gone on sale at Alfa Romeo car dealerships across the UK, is available in four different versions from launch.

And entry-level prices start from just £25,995 on the road for the JTS trim.

Nevertheless, the price does not come at the expense of performance - powered by a 2.2-litre 16-valve petrol engine, the model can reportedly hit a top speed of 138 mph.

Moreover, the basic model will also come with parking sensors, five airbags and cruise control as standard.

Alfa Romeo was founded in 1907 and has its global headquarters in Turin, Italy.

Since its original launch date, the Spider has had several high-profile brushes with popular culture.

In 1967, Dustin Hoffman famously had to abandon his convertible after running out of gas in the film The Graduate, before sprinting to church in order to prevent a wedding.
