Once voted the best car in Europe the Alfa Romeo 147, has maintained its reputation as a class act.
UK customers have three versions to choose between, these being the 1.6 litre in Turismo trim, the Lusso trim, or the two-litre Selespeed (also in Lusso trim).
To be honest if you want reliability I'd pick the 1.6 and if you want nifty perks then I'd pick the two-litre. The Selespeed has an F1 steering wheel mounted gear change allowing you to click through your speeds by the touch of a button.
However, there is some delay in the time it takes from hitting the button to the change in the engine and although there is a clutch for use as well, the button changes can take a little getting used to. The car also has a reversible boot floor, which can be turned over into a waterproof tray.
The 1.6 litre on the other hand has 120 bhp which packs quite a punch, considering it's inside a three-door hatchback. It also has a suprisingly short gear change making driving comfortable and easy.
The 1.6-litre Turismo comes in at £12,985 and from there types range up to the Selespeed at £17,340.
Alphas are generally a male car with at least 80 per cent of males purchasing a Romeo, however, the 147 is also well suited to women aged 25 to 45.
