Details of Alfa Romeo hatchback revealed
A new model from Alfa Romeo could rival the BMW Mini yet be similar in design to the Fiat Grande Punto, it has emerged.Likely to be named the Alfa Junior, the three-door hatchback could be an alternative to the recently updated Mini, Automotive World claims, citing Italian magazine Quattroroute.
The styling of the Alfa Junior is set to be designed within the company's Centro Style division, while aiming to attract drivers within the 18-35-year-old age bracket.
This is part of a strategy drawn up by the car manufacturer's chief executive officer, Antonio Baravelle, who also intends to increase the company's brand sales to 300,000 units per year.
Automotive World, while comparing the Alfa Junior's expected design to the 8C Competizione supercar, said that the car could be a "spiritual successor" to the 1970's Alfasud model.
In addition, the estimated price of the hatchback could be around €16,000 (£10,700).
Alfa Romeo is currently gearing up for the UK launch of the Alfa Spider, which is to be available in 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre models.
