The group employs 1,400 people across thirty nine locations with an annual turnover of £400 million. Company Milestones1908The founder of the company, Harold Perry, started his own motor accessories company. He formerly worked for the UK distributor for Ford. 1912Harold Perry appointed Ford dealer for London. A year earlier Harolds brother, Percival, persuaded Henry Ford to launch the Ford Motor Company in England. Percival later became chairman of Fords UK company. 1922Sir Percival Perry helped Andre Citroen to establish commercial and manufacturing subsidiaries for the early Citroen automobile business in England. 1926Harold opened a Ford dealership in Ballards Lane, Finchley, to add to his London and Aylesbury showrooms. Finchley remained one of London's largest dealerships until 1993. 1939By the outbreak of war, Perrys had opened and acquired three more dealerships. As part of the war effort, sections of Ballards Lane were converted to a meat distribution centre and workshops for overhauling military vehicles and making wings for gliders. 1944A tractor dealership was acquired in Whetstone, London. This was replaced by a centre for pre-delivery inspection of new vehicles in 1959. 1955Dealerships opened in Edgware, Harrow, Potters Bar and Milton Keynes over the next four years. 1982Perrys acquired a Vauxhall franchise in Doncaster, the first non-Ford dealership. 1987The acquisition of Rocar Group brought Rover, Jaguar and Land Rover into the company. 1988Further programme of dealership acquisitions including Peugeot and Toyota, opening of new premises and redevelopment of existing sites begun. 1990Renault and Iveco Ford franchise acquired. 1991Nissan and Lexus franchises acquired. 1996Redevelopment of the companies dealerships in Preston and Rotherham. 1997New Land Rover dealership constructed in Huddersfield. 1998Perrys takes the lead with on-line presence among dealerships with the launch of the first group website, www.perrys.co.uk 1999Perrys opened a Vauxhall dealership in Broadstairs. 1999Perrys purchased a Peugeot dealership in Accrington. 2000Perrys acquire a Peugeot Dealership in Bolton and builds a new Peugeot dealership in Clitheroe. 2000Perrys opened a Vauxhall dealership in Leyland which will be a satellite of Preston. 2000Perrys acquired a Vauxhall dealership in Dover. 2000Perrys acquire a Mitsubishi dealership for Rotherham, the franchise is based at Mushroom Garage along side Rover. 2001Perry Group Plc sells Motor Division to Management Team. Perrys Motor Sales sets for expansion. 2001Perrys Motor Sales acquires two new Vauxhall dealerships in Rotherham and Barnsley. Massive expansion of the Barnsley site was completed February 2002. 2001Perrys open new head office in Northampton. 2002Expansion at the Barnsley site continued with the opening of the groups new Citroen Dealership in July 2002. 2002Perrys open the new state of the art training facility in Barnsley. 2003Further investment in the Peugeot Brand with the acquisition of Peugeot in Aylesbury. 2003Perrys add a Mazda Franchise to their cluster in Huddersfield. 2004Expansion of the Group continues with the new acquisition of Ford, two Ford sites opened in High Wycombe and Aylesbury in January. 2004Perrys acquire two Walker Farrimond sites in Lancashire; a Mazda Dealership in Blackburn and a Peugeot site in Nelson. August 2004. 2005Perrys add a Vauxhall Franchise to their cluster in Huddersfield. 2005Perrys open a National Aftersales Contact Centre based in their dealership in Nelson. 2006Further investment is put into the Land Rover brand with the acquisition of Luton Land Rover, formerly part of the Stratstone Group. 2007The Vauxhall brand expands with the purchase of four Vauxhall dealerships in Lancashire, previously owned by Vantage Group. 2007Perrys move into a new Head Office in Northampton. 2007Perrys acquire their first Renault Franchise in Aylesbury. |
